welcome

Amabile is an enterprising classical music ensemble based on a clarinet, cello and piano trio,  made up of prize-winning and much-recorded artists. The group has established a reputation for imaginative programming and dynamic performances. As well as performing much loved classics, Amabile highlights some surprisingly neglected composers, and also enjoys expanding the repertoire with newly commissioned music.

what people have said...
  • ‘What a wonderful concert last night! Fab playing and a super programme - it was such a pleasure to be there and hear you play. The audience loved it. And that restful encore to send us home...’
Amanda Crawley, Programme Secretary, BMS York
  • “..this concert was an absolute joy from start to finish... the playing throughout was scintillating, not just because of the technical excellence of the individual players but also because of their ‘togetherness’ brought about no doubt by such thorough preparation that was demonstrated in an intimate knowledge of the music where the differing shades and dynamics were emphasised superbly. A subtle balance between the instruments was maintained such that no individual took centre stage. This was music making of the highest quality and made more so by the smiling relaxed approach of each of the three players.... “
    Nick Cousins
  • “..all three instruments produced moments of expressive beauty, not least in the adagio section where the cello and clarinet sublimely juxtaposition themselves in exquisite interplay, and the spirited final movement which allows the piano particularly to produce a full range of pyrotechnics. It was played superbly and received rapturous applause by a very enthusiastic audience..."
  • Everyone loved the concert. So musical. Concerts like this make all the dedication and hard work worthwhile.
Steve Crowther, Composer and Concert Administrator, Late Music
  • Yesterday I had the privilege of attending a recital by Amabile. It was a wonderful experience. All members of the group are experienced ensemble and orchestral players. Their unobtrusive virtuosity and excellent ensemble was never in doubt and we could see as well as hear their obvious enjoyment of both the music and playing together… What joy!
  • The opening Allegro had a lovely flow here and a delicate ending. In the heat haze conjured by the Adagio, the cello of Nicola Tait Baxter came into its own, entwined closely with Lesley Schatzberger’s idiomatic clarinet. Paul Nicholson’s piano neatly underpinned the lilting Viennese waltz that preceded a finale of crisp rhythms tinged with a touch of aggression.
Martin Dreyer, Charleshutchpress. [Brahms Clarinet Trio]
  • This Trio was a delight to have at our centre. We had the pleasure of meeting three compatible musicians who seemed to have already been good friends for some time. The music was a perfect combination for us on this occasion. And we are hopeful that Amabile will return to our venue soon.
    Marie-Luise Heinecke, Harlow Lunchtime Concerts

  • It was a great performance! Really enjoyed it... It says a lot for that audience that, not only did they come in their usual numbers for a less than familiar favourite, but they were so attentive and so appreciative.
Iain Lowery, Norwich Assembly House Concerts

  • Thank you for your superb concert at Perivale today. It was really excellent and much enjoyed by everyone.
    Hugh Mather, St Mary’s, Perivale
